Offering Relief for Those in Need

Dear Friends,

This past year the board of directors recognized that the pandemic continued to bring much suffering to many and decided to add an additional grant cycle. Through the support of the Franciscan Sisters and our benefactors, the Mission Society was able to provide $58,000 in grants in April 2021to those affected by the pandemic.

  • Brotherhood in Christ – Franciscan Education & Assistance Assocaition (Anápolis, GO, Brazil) Financial relief for families affected by the pandemic – food baskets, medical appointments & tests.
  • Emergency Assitance – Menino Jesus Community (Anápolis, GO, Brazil) Relief for families impacted by the pandemic – food, medical assistance & basic goods.
  • Education Inclusion – Nossa Senhora D’Abidia Community (Quirinopólis, GO, Brazil) Tablets & internet service for 20 students learning at home during the pandemic.
  • Transforming Lives through Education – St. Francis of Assisi Educational Center (Palmas, TO, Brazil) Textbooks, school supplies & food baskets for students in need.
  • Water Harvesting Project – Immaculate Conception Convent (Kingston, Jamaica) · Support for a reliable water supply for 2 schools & the Sisters’ convent to reduce demand on municipal water.
  • Laptops for Distance Learning – St. Joseph’s Infant School (Kingston, Jamaica) Purchase 7 laptops for teachers to give lessons via distance learning due to COVID-19.
  • RISE (Rental Assistance) – Brunswick County Homeless Coalition (Brunswick Co., NC) Provide 5 families with rental assistance to prevent homelessness.
  • Produce Wash Station – Canticle Farm (Allegany, NY) Upgrading the wash station to ensure food safety.
  • Health & Hygiene – Daystat Life Center (St. Petersburg, FL) Hygiene, paper & cleaning products to people in need.
  • Sandwiches for the Homeless – Holy Cross Parish (Springfield, MA) Ham, turkey and cheese for 400 weekly sandwiches.
  • Homelessness Prevention – St. Francis Community Center (Long Beach Island, NJ) Assist 10 families with rent or mortgage payments to prevent homelessness.
  • Tuition Scholarship – St. Gianna’s Center for Women’s Health (St. Petersburg, FL) Assist 2 Spanish-speaking students in completing the Fertility Care Practitioner program.
  • Pathways for Liberation Through Education – United Interfaith Action of Southereastern MA (Falls River, MA) Equipment & supplies for a community improvement program.

Educational Inclusion – Nossa Senhora D’Abadia Community (Quirinopólis, GO, Brazil)

João Vitor holds his new tablet that was provided by a Mission Society grant. Digital inclusion came through tablets and internet service for 20 students who did not have access to the digital education system needed during the pandemic.

Laptops for Distance Learning – St. Joseph’s Infant School (Kingston, Jamaica) A Mission Society grant purchased laptops for teachers to more effectively teach through distance learning.
